Polarfront has arrived in Norway!

Greener than ever, Polarfront put back to sea on March 21, after a complete overhaul of her propulsion and power generation systems. It took four months in Concarneau and 22,500 hours of work to complete this colossal project. From propeller to bridge, every system was rethought and renewed so that Polarfront consumes only what she strictly needs.

The sea trials carried out on March 18 confirmed what we expected from this slightly crazy challenge. Our ship can now sail at her cruising speed (9 knots) on a single generator set (290 kW, the power of a truck), saving around 35% of diesel in transit compared with her original engine and cutting her CO2 emissions by the same amount. We can’t wait to share the figures for her overall operations, which will be even more satisfying.

Polarfront arrived in Norway on March 28 after a weeklong crossing. Looking back on the sea trials and this first crossing, we can say with certainty that this transformation was a crazy gamble, but a winning one!
