The logbook
A suggested program: aboard Polarfront, the weather, the ice and the wildlife also decide the route.
01Tromsø
Boarding at 5:00 p.m. and welcome aboard Polarfront.
Get to know the ship and your living spaces over a welcome cocktail.
We set sail at 6:00 p.m.
02Skjervøy
In winter, humpback whales and orcas come to feed on herring in Skjervøy Bay, in the heart of the Lyngen Alps.
Polarfront will sail through a magnificent natural setting of alpine mountains and deep fjords, offering you spectacular views.
Watching the orcas and whales will be the main focus of this voyage. Conditions permitting, we’ll approach them by Zodiac, while following the rules in place so as
not to disturb them.
03Skjervøy
December brings deep darkness, perfect for watching the northern lights.
When planning our route, we keep a close eye on the Norwegian weather services’ forecasts, especially the Kp index, which indicates how likely the northern lights are in a given place.
Northern Norway lies at an ideal geomagnetic latitude,
so the northern lights can be seen regularly whenever the sky is clear.
04North Cape
Weather permitting, we’ll follow the Norwegian coast and try to reach the legendary North Cape.
Often described as the end of Europe, the North Cape is known for its spectacular cliffs rising above the sea.
05Tromsø
This is where this wonderful adventure comes to an end.
Disembarkation is at 9:00 a.m., after breakfast.
