Polarfront welcomes just 12 guests, for an intimate, immersive experience at the heart of the polar regions.
Discover PolarfrontTraveling in a small group makes for a more immersive, smoother experience. Landings are quicker and more frequent, with more flexibility to adapt to conditions and viewing opportunities.
With the group limited to 12, all guests can board the Zodiacs or go ashore at the same time, with no waiting and no rotations. Everyone gets the most out of every outing.
A group this size also creates a warm, friendly atmosphere on board and a special rapport with the guides and crew, for richer, more personal conversations.
Finally, a small group naturally reduces the human impact on the sites we visit and the animals we observe, for a more respectful approach to polar wildlife and ecosystems.
At Latitude Blanche, we believe in travel that takes the time to discover.
We favor authentic experiences, carefully designed itineraries and encounters that give the journey meaning, while always respecting the places that welcome us.
Yes. Latitude Blanche expeditions are guided from start to finish, to make the experience easier and richer. Every member of Polarfront’s crew is a seasoned professional.
We sail in three regions of the Arctic: Spitsbergen, in Svalbard, from spring to fall; northern Norway, from Lofoten to Tromsø, in winter and as winter ends; and the east coast of Greenland, on a late-summer expedition from Spitsbergen. All our voyages are aboard Polarfront, with a maximum of twelve guests.
It depends on what you want to experience: sea ice and snowy landscapes in Spitsbergen in April and May; the midnight sun and the grand tour of the archipelago in August; the first northern lights in Spitsbergen in the fall; the northern lights, orcas and the polar night in Norway in December; the return of the light in Lofoten in late February. Our guide when to go to Spitsbergen covers each season.
In northern Norway, from September to March, and especially in December, in the heart of the polar night; in Spitsbergen, from late September, when the nights turn dark again. The northern lights are never guaranteed: you need a clear sky and a little solar activity. Our advice: northern lights in Norway.
Spitsbergen is one of the best places in the world to see them, especially in spring near the sea ice, and in summer in the northeast of the archipelago. No sighting is ever guaranteed, and regulations require you to stay at least 300 meters from a bear (500 meters from March 1 to June 30). Learn more: polar bears in Spitsbergen.
Not on an expedition ship: the geographic North Pole lies in the middle of the frozen Arctic Ocean, and only a handful of icebreakers go there. Svalbard, between 74° and 81° north, is the last inhabited shore before the Pole. Our guide: can you go to the North Pole by ship?

Entry requirements vary by destination.

We also recommend checking that your travel documents are valid several months before departure.
Your travel booklet is sent to you a few weeks before departure.
It includes:
Our prices do not include any insurance. We recommend taking out a policy with the insurer of your choice covering cancellation, assistance, medical evacuation, medical expenses and lost luggage. Depending on your bank, paying by credit card may also give you access to some coverage.
No: flights to and from the port of embarkation (Longyearbyen, Tromsø or Bodø), as well as hotel nights before or after the voyage, are not included. The one exception: the private flight from Constable Point to Reykjavik at the end of the Greenland expedition is included. Our team can help you choose your flights.
Good general fitness is enough: outings are by Zodiac and hikes are adapted to the group. You need to be able to get in and out of a Zodiac and walk on sometimes uneven ground. A medical questionnaire is provided when you book: please tell us about any health issue. Because of the ship’s layout, Polarfront unfortunately cannot accommodate guests with reduced mobility.
Yes, from age 3. Between 3 and 8, a boarding authorization is required: request it when you book. Children must be independent during outdoor activities, able to sit on the Zodiac tubes and follow the crew’s instructions; they remain under their parents’ responsibility. Full conditions are in our terms and conditions.
Women more than four months pregnant cannot board, as the ship is not equipped for a birth. Before four months, we recommend checking with your doctor that your health is compatible with the expedition.
Most of the time, Polarfront sails in the fjords and along the coasts, sheltered from the swell, and it has an anti-roll stabilization system. Open-sea passages, such as the crossing to Greenland, can be rougher: if you are prone to seasickness, bring a remedy after checking with your doctor.
It depends on the destination and the season: our detailed packing lists are in our practical information for Spitsbergen, Norway and Greenland. No need to bring an extreme-cold suit, a bathrobe, towels or a hair dryer: they are waiting in your cabin. Remember to label your luggage with your name.
Polarfront has eight suites, for a maximum of twelve guests: Mike Suites, Loomis Suites and the Owner’s Suite. Each has its own bathroom and its own character, between maritime heritage and contemporary comfort. You will find an extreme-cold suit per person, a bathrobe, towels, toiletries, a hair dryer and a safe. Discover them on our cabins page.
Yes: Polarfront has a Starlink antenna, so you can connect to the internet on your devices throughout the voyage; the chief steward gives you the connection details. Cell phones lose signal a few hours after departure. We still encourage you to enjoy being disconnected.
Outlets are the European standard (220 volts, 50 Hz): bring an adapter for other plugs. The euro is the currency on board: you pay for drinks and extras by credit card or in cash. No need to get Norwegian kroner: credit cards are accepted everywhere in Norway.
The price includes full board, Zodiac outings, landings and lectures by our guides. Not included: drinks at the bar and fine wines, purchases in the shop, communications, laundry and tips. Details are on each voyage page and in our terms and conditions.
Tips are not included and are entirely up to you. At the end of the voyage, if you wish to thank the crew, you can give them by credit card or in cash.

Ship’s biscuits
At sea, cookies are called ship’s biscuits, and our polar bear loves them. A few are essential to sail this website; the others, such as YouTube’s for our films, only come on board with your consent.
Ship’s biscuits · Ship’s manifest
Every biscuit is listed on the manifest, and the bear on watch awaits your orders: you decide which ones embark. Your choice is kept for six months and can be changed at any time.
Without them the ship would not float: the website language, form security and remembering your choices. They do nothing else and never follow you around.
