An exclusive voyage into the heart of one of the wildest regions of the Arctic.
Swept by the icy Arctic current, Greenland’s east coast stays cut off for much of the year. Sheer mountains, vast fjords and icebergs form a raw, unspoiled land.
Aboard Polarfront, you explore in a small group, at the pace of the ice, the landings and the hikes leading to glaciers and vast Arctic valleys.
Four reasons to choose this expedition, in a small group aboard Polarfront.
A remote, spectacular coastline that still sees very few visitors.
Monumental ice sculptures deep in the fjords.
Polar bears, musk oxen, seals and whales.
The first displays can appear as early as August.
Once inhabited by the Inuit, this remote island off northeast Greenland is now the domain of abundant wildlife: seals, walruses, polar bears, and sometimes whales offshore.

Answers to the questions we’re asked most often. Have another question? Let’s talk.
A question about your voyage?Write to usThe Arctic summer, from late July to September, offers the best conditions for exploring the fjords, watching wildlife and sailing among the icebergs. It’s also the only time of year the east coast is accessible, once it’s free of ice.
Yes. Greenland’s east coast is home to a large population of polar bears, as well as seals, whales, Arctic hares and foxes, and musk oxen (a species endemic to Greenland).
Yes. From early August, the northern lights begin to light up Greenland’s skies.
Our expedition starts in Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen: Polarfront crosses the Greenland Sea in two days, along the sea ice, before exploring the east coast. The voyage ends at Constable Point, a small airstrip in the heart of Scoresby Sund, where a private flight, included in the price, takes you to Reykjavik, Iceland. All you need to arrange is your flight to Longyearbyen and your flight home from Iceland.
As of fall 2026, our 11-day expedition from Spitsbergen to East Greenland costs €13,880 to €16,680 per person, depending on the suite, based on double occupancy. The price includes full board on the ship, Zodiac outings, lectures and the private flight from Constable Point to Reykjavik; flights to Longyearbyen and home from Iceland are not included.
It is the largest fjord system in the world, on the east coast of Greenland. Its arms reach hundreds of kilometers inland, between colorful rock walls and glaciers. It is famous for its giant icebergs, some more than 100 meters high, and its waters are home to the narwhal. The village of Ittoqqortoormiit watches over its entrance.
Created in 1974, it is the largest national park in the world: nearly 972,000 km², about 40% larger than Texas. It covers the whole northeast of the island, from the coasts to the ice sheet, and is home to polar bears, musk oxen, walruses and Arctic foxes. Almost uninhabited, it receives very few visitors: our expedition sails along its coast, from Île de France to the Pendulum Islands.
Yes, that is the nature of an expedition. Sea ice conditions and the weather decide the route each day: the captain and our guides adapt the itinerary for everyone’s safety and for the best sightings. The places described on the voyage page are the ones we aim for, with no guarantee of reaching them all.
Good general fitness is enough. Landings are by Zodiac, and hikes, across the tundra or toward the glaciers, are adapted to the group. You need to be able to get in and out of a Zodiac and walk on sometimes uneven ground. The two-day crossing from Spitsbergen is in open sea: bring a remedy if you are prone to seasickness.
It is the main village in the region, at the entrance to Scoresby Sund: some 350 people who still live from traditional hunting and fishing. In Greenlandic, its name means “the settlers with the big houses.” A call to discover the daily life of a community at the end of the world, with respect for its residents.
Yes: a valid passport is required. Greenland is not part of the Schengen Area, and the voyage also passes through Svalbard on the way out and Iceland on the way back: check the entry requirements for your nationality. All the formalities are in our practical information.
Spitsbergen offers sea ice, polar bears and great glaciers within a few hours of Longyearbyen, with voyages in spring, summer or fall. East Greenland is wilder still: an almost deserted coast, the giant icebergs of Scoresby Sund and an Inuit village at the end of the world. Our late-summer expedition brings the two together: it starts in Spitsbergen and crosses to Greenland.

Ship’s biscuits
At sea, cookies are called ship’s biscuits, and our polar bear loves them. A few are essential to sail this website; the others, such as YouTube’s for our films, only come on board with your consent.
Ship’s biscuits · Ship’s manifest
Every biscuit is listed on the manifest, and the bear on watch awaits your orders: you decide which ones embark. Your choice is kept for six months and can be changed at any time.
Without them the ship would not float: the website language, form security and remembering your choices. They do nothing else and never follow you around.
