The voyage
in a few words
In the heart of the polar night
Set out to discover the northern lights and the cetaceans of Norway aboard Polarfront, our small-group expedition ship. From the Lofoten Islands to the Lyngen Alps, enjoy an immersive adventure amid the Arctic’s most beautiful landscapes. In December in Norway, the sun never rises above the horizon. This unique light, soft and unreal, bathes the landscapes in sublime twilight hues and fills every moment with wonder. Scenic sailing through snow-covered fjords, encounters with cetaceans, nights lit up by the dancing northern lights… We invite you to live a true waking dream, to the rhythm of the polar night.
Only at this time of year does Norway offer the rare opportunity to watch orcas and whales. Drawn by immense schools of herring that spend the winter in the cold waters of the fjords, these majestic cetaceans converge on the region, turning the sea into an extraordinary wildlife spectacle. In winter, Scandinavians embrace a peaceful, warm way of life, built on good company and shared moments. It’s this unique atmosphere that we invite you to discover in the cozy charm of Polarfront. With only 12 guests on board, enjoy an authentic, privileged experience, as close as can be to Norway’s wild nature.

The logbook
A suggested program: aboard Polarfront, the weather, the ice and the wildlife also decide the route.
01Tromsø
Boarding at 5:00 p.m. and welcome aboard Polarfront.
Get to know the ship and your living spaces over a welcome cocktail.
We set sail at 6:00 p.m.
02Skjervøy
These days will be devoted to searching for and watching great whales from Polarfront or our Zodiacs.
In winter, humpback whales and orcas come to feed among the islands of Skjervøy Bay, in the heart of the Lyngen Alps. Polarfront will sail through a magnificent natural setting of alpine mountains and deep fjords, offering you spectacular views.
03Senja
Senja rivals Lofoten and Vesterålen in beauty, yet sees far fewer visitors.
It’s an island to explore slowly, to fully appreciate its quiet, natural beauty. A broad farming plain meets the sea on the island’s east coast, facing the mainland.
Conditions permitting, we’ll take you on a beautiful hike in a sheltered fjord.
04Trollfjord
Let yourself be carried through one of Norway’s narrowest fjords: the Trollfjord.
Its name comes from the many tales and myths inspired by its mysterious splendor.
Just 2,000 meters long and only 100 meters wide, the Trollfjord is yours to explore by polar pedal boat or Zodiac. Or take in its steep shores from the warmth of the Nordic hot tub or the panoramic sauna.
05Western Lofoten Islands
Polarfront will call at Leknes, the central port of the Lofoten archipelago. You’ll visit the village of Nusfjord, one of the best-preserved fishing villages in Norway. A stop in Reine offers an incredible view over this postcard-perfect corner of Lofoten. You can then stroll through the charming village of Å, a museum village that celebrates cod fishing.
06Eastern Lofoten Islands
The day begins with the long sandy beaches of the north.
In Eggum, you’ll walk in the footsteps of World War II history.
Next, we’ll take you to Henningsvær, a fishing village at the tip of a peninsula. Nicknamed “the Venice of Lofoten,” Henningsvær is probably the most appealing spot in the archipelago.
Finally, you’ll visit the Viking museum at Borg, where you’ll enjoy a traditional meal around a fire in a reconstructed Viking house.
07Skrova
In the shadow of its giant neighbors in the Lofoten Islands, Skrova stands proud, holding on to its charms and mysteries. Often nicknamed “whale island” for its rich whaling past, Skrova blends history, wild nature and breathtaking panoramas.
With its white-sand beaches, its small, authentic village and its steep mountains, the island is a true haven of peace.
08Tromsø
This is where this wonderful adventure comes to an end.
Disembarkation is at 9:00 a.m., after breakfast.
