The voyage
in a few words

Discover Svalbard in its fall colors

Far beyond the Arctic Circle, a stone’s throw from the North Pole, Latitude Blanche invites you to explore Svalbard, the Arctic’s raw, unspoiled jewel. This legendary archipelago captivates with its extraordinarily rich wildlife and some of the most striking landscapes on the planet. In the fall, the light becomes a spectacle in its own right. It shifts through the hours, sculpting the terrain and revealing a palette of unique, ever-changing polar moods.

At daybreak, the sky slowly catches fire: blazing gradients of orange, pink and purple contrast with the deep blue of the glaciers. Exceptional sunsets give way to starry nights, sometimes lit up by the mysterious dance of the northern lights. Far from everything, let the silence wash over you, forget about time... and set off on the voyage of a lifetime!

Prins Karls Forland02
Days 2–9 Excursions

Prins Karls Forland

Prins Karls Forland, at the western edge of Svalbard, is a peaceful haven for walruses, which come to rest beneath the island’s many peaks.

Krossfjord03

Krossfjord

Krossfjord is a magnificent microcosm of Spitsbergen: glaciers plunging into the sea (including the majestic, 7-kilometer-long ice front of the Lilliehöök Glacier, and the 14th of July Glacier), tundra and historic sites.

Kongsfjord04

Kongsfjord

Kongsfjord was the starting point for many attempts to conquer the Pole.
Beyond its rich history, the scenery is magnificent: iceberg-strewn fjords and tundra-covered shores.
You’ll hike up to beautiful viewpoints.

Magdalenefjord05

Magdalenefjord

Magdalenefjord takes its name from Mary Magdalene. Ringed by alpine peaks, this 10-kilometer-long fjord offered excellent shelter to the whalers who flocked here in the 17th century. Today, its shores are dotted with remains that reveal the rich history of
Spitsbergen.
Magdalenefjord will be the starting point for a hike toward the great glacier.

Smeerenburgfjord06

Smeerenburgfjord

Smeerenburgfjord is known for the role it played in the history of Spitsbergen.
A whaling station opened here in 1619 and was abandoned in 1660. Steep and almost hostile, the fjord’s shores are carpeted in tundra, revealing spectacular landscapes!

Pack ice07

Pack ice

Polarfront will sail into the ice, heading north and east, in search of the pack ice and the wildlife that lives on it.

Monaco Glacier08

Monaco Glacier

At the head of the iceberg-strewn Liefdefjord, you’ll come face to face with the superb Monaco Glacier (named in honor of Prince Albert Honoré Charles of Monaco (1848–1922), one of the founding fathers of oceanography worldwide).

Alkefjellet09

Alkefjellet

Located in Hinlopen Strait, Alkefjellet is the most spectacular bird colony in Svalbard. Thousands of birds nest on basalt columns that plunge into the deep Arctic waters.
Polar bears and Arctic foxes sometimes venture onto these dizzying cliffs in search of eggs or birds.

Bråsvellbreen10

Bråsvellbreen

On the south side of Nordaustlandet, this ice cliff, the longest in the Northern Hemisphere, stretches for about 180 kilometers and stands some 24 meters high, with a series of waterfalls along its entire length.

Freemansundet11

Freemansundet

Freeman Strait separates the islands of Barentsøya and Edgeøya, a nature reserve with diverse wildlife. It’s not unusual to come across the king of the Arctic here: the polar bear.

Bellsund12

Bellsund

Bellsund (20 km wide) is the entrance to a branching system of three fjords that end in magnificent glaciers, reaching as far as 80 km inland.
On the south shore lie the remains of 17th-century whaling stations, while on the north shore you’ll find traces of attempts at mining (zinc, gold, coal).
Bellsund offers many hiking spots with breathtaking views of classic Spitsbergen scenery.

Longyearbyen13
Day 10 Disembarkation

Longyearbyen

This is where this wonderful adventure comes to an end.
Disembarkation is at 9:00 a.m., after breakfast.
