Latitude Blanche was born from the shared passion of Yann Le Bellec and Sophie Galvagnon for the polar regions.
Aware of their vulnerability, it is in the idea of preserving them that they have chosen to take passengers to discover them, appreciate them and understand their challenges.
Poles are often seen as a symbol of the threat to our environment.
Indeed, although almost all pollution is generated at lower latitudes, the impact is particularly noticeable at the poles.
POLARFRONT crew members are involved with us to support Latitude Blanche’s ecological commitments.
On a daily basis, they apply the various charters and are invited to propose improvements, whatever their function on board.
Every year we optimize the embedded systems on POLARFRONT to reduce energy consumption and waste production.
We equip the ship with recent technologies known to limit unnecessary losses (LED lighting, speed control, insulation, etc.)
We are investing to reduce the carbon footprint and are doing everything possible to ensure that the impact of sea travel is as low as possible.
We are developing direct partnerships with local suppliers in short circuits to reduce the carbon footprint of supplies. POLARFRONT’s storage capacity allows us to avoid using airplanes for comfort food in these virgin areas.
We also select suppliers who limit the packaging of food to biodegradable materials.
At our level, we are committed to institutions that serve scientific and ecological causes.
This association, controlled by the Norwegian Governor of Svalbard, organizes the collection of plastic brought by marine currents on the beaches of the archipelago.
Our passengers are invited during their shore excursions to collect the waste found.
The ship’s crew is responsible for bringing them back to Longyearbyen for proper treatment.
A METEO FRANCE weather station is on board on POLARFRONT.
It automatically transmits data that feeds into global weather databases.
In addition to these shipments, the crew provides information on observations that the sensors cannot collect
(clouds, sea state, swell,…).
The NOx fond raises funds to finance research on new green technologies.
We are convinced that educating our passengers about the issues of the region they are visiting will allow them to return home with simple actions and messages that can make a difference.
