It was from Kongsfjorden, the \u201cKing\u2019s Bay\u201d that is now home to the Ny-\u00c5lesund research station, that Roald Amundsen and Umberto Nobile\u2019s airship <em>Norge<\/em> took off in May 1926 to fly over the North Pole.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Ny-\u00c5lesund still welcomes scientists from all over the world, who study the atmosphere, the glaciers and the climate of the Arctic. In summer, when the ice retreats, <em>Polarfront<\/em> can push north and east.
